A "Serene Cities Index" for 2023 has been compiled by Money Super Market Travel Insurance.  When you travel what are you looking for? Is it for relaxation and a calming experience or is it for a party time and go, go, go. If it is for serenity and relaxation you might want to put these top 10 vacation destinations on your radar. 

The "2023 Serene Cities" index is a report that was created by travel experts who analyzed 75 of the world’s most popular travel cities. Each city was assigned with an overall index score based on the following factors: air quality, light and noise pollution, traffic congestion, average sunshine hours and the friendliness of residents.

Not surprising the "2023 Serene Cities" list has several cities where the citizens are rated as being some of the happiest and friendliest in the world. 

Lets take a look at the Top 10 Serene Cities.

Number 1 Spot:   Reykjavik, Iceland




It is not surprising that Reykjavik, Iceland takes the Number 1 spot. It has excellent air quality, plenty of green spaces, low traffic and pollution levels, and a very happy population.

Number 2: Tallinn, Estonia

Tallinn is quickly becoming a favorite destination for its budget-friendly food and drink options. This city is like something "straight out of a storybook". It has medieval buildings, ancient alleyways, and lots of picturesque vistas overlooking the Baltic Sea.

Number 3 Spot: Bergen, Norway


This Scandinavian country is in a region that is also well known for having some of the most happiest and carefree locals in the world.  Bergen, Norway has some of the cleanest air and the lowest light pollution levels of all the cities on the list.  Close your eyes, think of some of the g.o.a.t  landscapes you could ever imagine, and then open you eyes.  Breathtaking panorama views in peaceful and serene little pockets are all over the city.  What bliss!

Number 4: Vienna, Austria

Vienna, Austria is quite a spectacular city. Vienna, is renowned for its world-class art and architecture along with a great many soul-soothing things for travelers to experience. Austria was featured on 2023’s list of the world’s safest countries.

Number 5: Stockholm, Sweden 





Come for the vibes, and stay for the food! Stockholm is one of Europe’s most sought after foodie destinations. It has an array of up and coming chefs with a plethora of hard to book restaurants and bars. Stockholm chefs and restaurants are making waves worldwide. Any capital that is made up of breathtaking islands which are connected by romantic bridges crisscrossing over the icy Baltic Sea should be toured on two or three wheels. Stockholm is definitely worthy of being on this list and on your short list.

Number 6: Vilnius, Lithuania


Vilnius, Lithuania is slowly gathering a reputation as being one of Europe’s most affordable secondary destination.  With cobblestone streets, colorful buildings and affordable food, this underrated Eastern European capital is a must see city before it gets too popular.  Vilnius is a very picturesque city.

 Number 7: Ljubljana, Slovenia

 

Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city is renowned for its happy, smiling locals and was also listed in the 2023 survey of Europe’s friendliest cities.  This city center is car-free, making it a green city free of pollution and traffic. Ljubljana is a real sanctuary for nature lovers looking for a destination city that is not just a concrete jungle but has lots of wide open greenery.

Number 8:  Munich, Germany

Munich offers a peaceful haven for those looking to unwind. But if you are looking for a really big party visit during Oktoberfest.  If you just want a more quiet and relaxing time come and explore the city’s quiet cultural offerings any other time of the year. There are a plenty of museums, art galleries, cycling routes and public gardens that’ll leave you feeling relaxed, contented and refreshed.

Number 9:  Zurich, Switzerland


Although Zurich, Switzerland is one of Europe’s most expensive city the expense does not seem to have an effect on the city's ability to create a Zen like environment for travelers. Zurich is know for its walk-able streets, fairy-tale corners and cozy, fire lit restaurants.  What more do you need for a perfect relaxing and  rejuvenating vacation.   
 

Number 10:  Dubrovnik, Croatia

 

Dubrovnik, Croatian is an old city dating back to the 16th century. This city has long drawn in travelers because of its beautiful walled Old Town with dramatic views over the Adriatic Sea. This city boasts plenty of inviting sandy beaches just waiting for exploration. Dubrovnik was voted one of the best cities in Europe, in the 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards.
